She Can Do No Wrong

I have always lusted over McQueen and his mix of fashion and theatrics. I almost died when I saw the shoes from his Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Armadillo shoes?! Who would ever think of designing such a thing. What I wouldn't give to own the skeleton-esque shoes.

I was wondering if anyone would dare wear the armadillo shoes. Daphne Guinness is one of the first to be seen out in them and I believe she is one of the only few people to pull them off although I don't know how easy they are to walk in.

The Nina Ricci shoes are amazing. Love the hair too! Does this women ever wear anything boring?

Dances of Vice and Tim Burton

So, I received an invite not too long ago from an amazing club called Dances of Vice. It's a group of people who all come together to celebrate the fashion and lifestyle of the Rococo, Victorian, Jazz Age and New Victorian age (all my favorite elements of design). They throw parties several times a month, but sadly I have yet to go. I guess it is the fact that I want an absolutely stunning, unique costume that combines all these ages in one, yet I never have any time to sit down and work on a design. Looking on the website, the people that attend these events are going all out and are unbelievably creative.

Halloween in New York City is so exciting. I am particularly excited for the Dances of Vice Halloween party. Forget all other lame ass Halloween parties where most girls have to tie in "sexy" or "slutty" into their costume (which is usually 99% in Arizona). The people at Dances of Vice will probably show up with some of the most gorgeous, best outfits in the city.

I am really going to try and work on a costume this weekend for a party before Halloween called The Importance of Being Wilde in celebration of their favorite author, Oscar Wilde. I became very intrigued with his work through my friend Victor Valentin. His words are beautiful, artistic and humorous. I found a website that has The Picture of Dorian Gray in its entirety that I've been reading when I'm bored at work. Some of my favorite quotes from Wilde:

Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.

Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.

The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself.

I am drawing inspiration from all over to come up with a costume that can compete with the best. The most recent issue of Bazaar has created a fashion spread in honor of Tim Burton's retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art here in NYC and the clothing sparked my interest in a costume. I fell in love with Tim Burton's work as a child. For years, I was obsessed with Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. Looking back now, the clothing is what truly drew me to his work. I love the Gothic, dark, brooding, Victorian look in his movies.

I'm going to need a Tim Burton movie marathon soon because this editorial brings back so many memories and inspiration.

House of Wang

A while back I discovered The Selby . There are so many blogs that write about home interiors, but most of the rooms seem so stuffy, matchy-matchy, and spotless. What I love about The Selby is it truly shows how the person lives and focuses on not how they decorated the room, but simple things such as piece of jewelry, personal pictures or a stack of magazines. Items such as these really give insight in their lives and what inspires them. Plus I don't feel so bad about my clutter of magazines, patterns and clothes thrown everywhere. Whenever I see a cutesy, perfectly matched interior I want to gag. It reminds me of the housewives back in Gilbert who led a boring life of crafting and raising kids (maybe they weren't bored, but my greatest fear in life was to end up like that; still hasn't happened yet fortunately).

Alexander Wang's SoHo studio has always stuck with me. I can't get out of my head the picture of Kate Moss with wild pink hair. I remember reading somewhere on how inspired he is by her style and he had to have that picture in his studio. I have been desperately trying to find a huge, giant fashion picture that I could hang up in my living room. I've searched all over to find someone who could take my favorite fashion spread and blow it up to cover my whole wall. 2 years, and still nothing..

The workroom photos give me goosebumps. I have been in several NYC designer's showrooms and I more excited about being there then most people feel if they were to spot their favorite celebrity walking down the street. There's so much creativity, inspiration and talent in these tiny little loft spaces and I don't think most people can fully comprehend how difficult it can be to make it in this industry.

Of course, The Selby had to have Erin Wasson, Wang's previous stylist/muse and every fashion loving girl's style icon showing off her wonderfully eclectic pads in LA and NYC.

A haute couturier's dream muse

Photobucket

Daphne Guinness is a huge fashion icon for us. Her clothing is sophisticated and elegant, but with her accessories and that signature punk black streak in her platinum blonde hair, she creates a whole different level of style through her originality. You won't ever catch her wearing one of the "must-haves" of the moment because she probably had it seasons ago. "Once something is a must-have, I want to put it in the bin. I know that sounds grand and horrid, but I don’t want anyone to tell me I need to have anything"

Many well known designers look to her for inspiration. She has collaborated on a jewelry line with Alexander McQueen's go-to jewelry designer Shaun Leane:

The list goes on and on: writer, filmmaker, designer as well as a perfumer. This women has it all and truly deserves to be a muse; because besides being one of the most fashionable people on earth, she is intelligent and driven to make something out of herself rather than be just an heiress to a beer fortune. Italia Vogue did a wonderful fashion spread in honor of her incredible fashion sense.
