Oldie but goodie. I need to open up my W Magazines more often when I get them in the mail.

Downtown in style
I am absolutely in love with the Acne Resort 2011 collection, especially the hats! It's the epitome of cool for the Downtown girl who wants to look unique yet relaxed.

A Room of One's Own
When I first moved to NYC, I was very fortunate to intern for Abigail Lorick who is the mastermind behind Eleanor Waldorf's designs on Gossip Girl. Although it was very brief (between work and school I couldn't find the time to commit unfortunately), I learned so much from her. She is a very warm, friendly person who worked really hard to get her line to the point it is at now and I'm so proud of where she's at now. I started right after her line debuted on Gossip Girl when she was working in a teeny tiny basement on the Lower East Side. She has since moved up to Parlor Showroom in SoHo where they show other well-established designers such as Timo Weiland, Rachel Antonoff and Samantha Pleet. Below are some recent articles and inspirations from her.
My all time favorite collection of hers was from Fall 2009 where her inspiration was from an old French foreign film called The Bride Wore Black (definitely a movie worth seeing!). For her lookbook, Tom Hins did a "Hitchcock meets Godard" look and I think it really tied in well with the collection.

Into the great wide open
I saw these pictures on Pamela Love's blog and it brought back memories of all the road trips my parents and I used to take around Arizona. When I went back to visit a few weeks ago, we were driving up to Glove to pick up some vintage jewelry from my mom's friend's shop and it finally hit me how beautiful the desert scenery is. Having lived in Arizona my whole life, I never appreciated the desert landscape because I didn't know anything else but that. Now that I live in New York, I finally get to see greenery. Walking through Central Park when the leaves are changing is the experience I always wanted, but there are times where I really miss the familiarity and landscape of home.
You can see the influence of Pamela Love's Fall 2010 collection from her trip to the Southwest. She is growing more and more with each collection and she has become one of my favorite designers for the moment. This collection reminds me of going shopping with my grandmother and mother when I was little to all the antique stores collection gigantic pieces of southwestern influenced jewelry. I now wear the pieces that my grandmother so lovingly wore to remind me of where I came from and no matter how many miles away I am from them, there's always a piece of them with me.

Siren
I've finally had a moment to relax, sit back and catch up on my reading material. I was excited to see a fashion spread in last month's Vogue with Karen Elson and Jack White.
I saw Karen Elson perform with her cabaret/vaudeville troupe The Citizens Band last October and it was truly one of my greatest and most fun experiences living in NYC. I was surprised at how amazing Karen Elson was as a performer and singer. Sarah Sophie Flicker steals the show though. She has such a fun, quirky style (her and Karen Elson pick out the wardrobe for the shows), and she incorporates her trapeze skills into the show which is absolutely stunning. If you're in New York, there is rumor that they will be putting on some more shows in the future!
If you can't make it to a Citizens Band show, check out her other project The Belles of the Black Diamond Field videos online with Sarah Sophie Flicker and Zooey Deschanel created by the talented Maximillia Lukacs
